“For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” – 1 Corinthians 1:18
This verse is heavy on my heart due to a foreboding conversation I will have with my grandparents. I’m headed back to Big D this weekend for Easter and will be celebrating with my dad’s parents in Fort Worth. By then, they will have received my letter explaining my decision to go to Afghanistan. Considering that they were horrified by my sister and I going to Costa Rica this summer, I think it’s fair to say they will be a bit disappointed in this choice. But natural man is blinded to the wisdom from God – that which is dispersed only through the Holy Spirit. This makes sense since wisdom is seeing things from God’s eternal perspective. But, even this reassurance that my grandparents may never “get it” doesn’t ease the tension and disappointment that awaits. Please pray for the Spirit to intervene and show my grandparents that the purpose of life is the glory of God and the glory of God isn’t always compatible with the safety of man. Amen? Amen, brothers.
